The long way to the Caribbean
Sailing from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean starts with the Strait of Gibraltar, then the run down to the Canaries before the crossing. Boats leave the Mediterranean in September or October to be ready to cross at the end of the year.
It's a long trip, often done in several legs: some crew join for the whole way, others only for the crossing from the Canaries.
