Heading for Brazil

Europe → South America

Sailing from Europe to Brazil or French Guiana: the route runs down via the Canaries and Cape Verde, then crosses the doldrums, the zone of calms and squalls near the equator.

Most boats leave between November and February. From Cape Verde, the crossing to north-eastern Brazil (Fortaleza, Recife, Salvador) takes about two to three weeks.

Season: November to February
Duration: 2 to 3 weeks from Cape Verde
Stopovers: Canaries, Cape Verde, Fernando de Noronha
